Lake Country residents had a rare chanceto meet a working poet last Saturday at the Winfield library branch. Debra Michels is a Lake Country resident who has been writing and designing inspirational art pieces for the last three years. "I do everything but take the picture," says poet Debra Michels as she discusses her inspirational artworks that were on display at the Lake Country Library last week. "I'd rather spend more time in the writing." Michels combines dramatic photos with inspirational poems and epigrams, fusing words and pictures to make a greater whole. "There's more impact using words and images together," she says. "When you add words to it, it makes it emotional for people." 
Michels says her work is different than the commercial posters, most of which are created by two U.S. corporations. In fact, she started her work in response to the commercial work, feeling that she could inject a more humanistic viewpoint...
